NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A historic New Orleans building was rehabilitated, and additional plans were announced for the construction of more housing on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

According to Providence Community Housing, the historic structure is located on the site of the former Lafitte public housing development, now Faubourg Lafitte. There are plans to construct 45 additional affordable rental units on the adjacent block. The announcement marks a milestone in the revitalization of the Faubourg Lafitte neighborhood.

The preservation of the last remaining building from the original public site and the construction of new, affordable housing will provide 51 units for low to moderate income families.

The redevelopment of the original building will include six one-bedroom units on the upper floors. T
