RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The Wake County Public School System is looking at the possible impacts of Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program cuts.
District officials spoke about their concerns during a Budget and Finance Committee meeting on Tuesday. They discussed the cost of food going up and how SNAP cuts may affect their ability to feed students.
According to district officials, when a family receives SNAP benefits, their children are automatically able for free or reduced-price meals.
With less families projected to receive SNAP benefits in 2026, officials said that could lead to the district paying more out of pocket to provide subsidized meals for students. Schools would also have to collect more eligibility forms.
