GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WSAZ) - School has just started, and Gallipolis Police Chief Justin Rice said they have already had four bus passing violations along Eastern Avenue.

But this isn’t a new problem.

“We’ve had this problem for a while actually,” Rice said. “It’s been several years that we’ve been dealing with this issue where cars will pass the school buses, mostly from the opposite direction on Eastern Avenue,” Rice said.

During the 2024-2025 school year, Rice said they had 23 bus passing violations reported.

He said drivers need to pay more attention and know the rules. For example, if you’re in the center turn lane, stopping for the bus is still required.
