COLUMBIA — After a wave of "swatting" calls took place at universities across the country this week, the Columbia Police Department said it also receives false calls multiple times a week.

According to CNN reporting , false messages warning students of an active shooter presence were sent to campus communities at Villanova University in Pennsylvania and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. At both universities, there were no gunmen found and no shots fired.

While the Columbia Police Department says it receives false calls on the regular, it has not received any false calls related to active shooters.
