At next week’s Killeen City Council, there are two items on the agenda that deal with the Killeen Police Department and how it handles mental health issues in the field.

One of those includes authorizing $30,000 for a qualified mental health professional to respond to calls with KPD.

“The mental health co-responder program is essential for addressing mental health crises effectively and humanely,” the staff reports read. “By pairing specially trained mental health professionals with law enforcement officers, the program helps ensure that individuals experiencing mental health issues receive appropriate care and support during emergencies.”
