PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - The historic bowling alley, Landmark Lanes, is closing after 46 years of operation next month, according to a general manager at the business.

The bowling alley on North Dries Lane is set to close sometime in September.

25News sent a crew to ask the general manager why the place is closing and what are the next steps, and she declined to comment.

U-Fitness, which is in the same building, will remain open.

Landmark Lanes helped Peoria receive attention on the national sports scene over the years, hosting an annual tournament seen on ABC Sports’ popular Pro Bowlers Tour.

Longtime broadcaster Chris Schenkel and expert commentator Nelson Burton Jr. called the 1988 event on ABC.
