OMAHA, Neb. —

Omaha Mayor John Ewing Jr. announced Tuesday that a staffer who was brought in to lead the city's DEI strategy will have the phrase "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" removed from his title.

Keith Station will be the Deputy Chief of Staff for External Affairs, no longer the Deputy Chief of Staff for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

The announcement came in the office's response to a proposed city council amendment to remove all DEI references in the 2026 budget. There are two references in the budget. Both are in Station's title.

Councilmembers Brinker Harding and Aimee Melton introduced the budget proposal. They said the phrase should be removed from the budget to ensure the city complies with an executive order from President Donald Trump that could stop federal funds
