OMAHA, Neb. —

The University of Nebraska Omaha's School of Criminology and Criminal Justice unveiled a two-year statewide assessment looking into labor trafficking.

It's the first research of its kind.

The report was conducted from July 2023 to July 2025.

Researchers reported that more than 580 surveys led them to uncover common themes of labor trafficking in Nebraska.

The report said the scope of the crime is largely unknown.

There were three overarching themes: the nature of labor trafficking, investigations and then services provided.

Researchers identified commonalities under each theme.

Under nature, survivors are often Latino or foreign-born adults and children, and traffickers generally know the victims.
