RAVENNA – A good start sputtered out a bit as the game wore on, and it took some of their power away, leaving the Manistee Mariners boys soccer team just trying to jam the ball through.

They didn’t get creative with the ball all over the field, stuck instead with certain space, which didn’t produce the desired results.

Despite those problems, the Mariners still had enough firepower in the end to finish with a convincing 5-1 win in their first West Michigan Conference game over Ravenna on the road Monday night.

“Once we made some adjustments at halftime, we started moving the ball as a group a lot better, and that opened things up,” Manistee head coach Brandon Prince said.

“It was 2-0 us at half. We just didn’t create a ton of opportunities that we should have.
