LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - 29 trees are set to be removed from a stretch of Goodhue Boulevard in front of the Nebraska State Capitol building. They’ll be replaced with 131 new ones, but some nearby residents are still upset about the plan approved by the city council Monday night.

The removal project was first proposed by Lincoln Parks and Recreation last year after an inspection in August found the trees along Goodhue Boulevard and nearby streets were rapidly deteriorating. The measure failed in December but passed Monday with the addition of a 4-to-1 replanting plan that will bring 131 new trees representing nearly 20 different species.
