The overnight emergency shelter at 1435 Northwest Northrup Street will be operated by the Salvation Army and initially offer around 40 beds, with capacity increasing to 100 beds after the first month, according to the city. The site may expand to a maximum of 200 beds, depending on need and operational capacity.
The shelter will be open from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and serve all genders, as well as use a "night after" reservation system, in which occupants will be guaranteed a bed from the previous night for the following evening. New people will be registered, then allocated the remaining beds.
