PRESTONBURG, Ky. (WYMT) - A Floyd County judge ordered a murder suspect to be released from custody this month after a grand jury failed to indict her on the charge.

Summer Adkins, 22, of Prestonsburg, was arrested in June and charged with murder after police say she shot and killed her 62-year-old father, Jimmy Harvey.

She was taken to the Floyd County Detention Center after investigators say she admitted to the murder, then appeared for a preliminary hearing June 16.

During that court appearance, investigators shared details about the shooting. They said Adkins claimed Harvey he sexually abused her as a child and had been doing the same to her young niece.
