The legal twists and turns of Sacred Heart Church took another turn Thursday, Aug. 21, involving the sale of the vacant building.

The Michigan Court of Appeals denied an attempt to block the pending sale and demolition of the former church to allow construction of a Sheetz convenience store and fuel center on the church grounds.

The three-member judicial panel granted artist Edward Stross’ motion for immediate consideration of his appeal of a lower court’s ruling. They then issued an order to deny his appeal “for a lack of merit in the grounds presented.”

“The court is saying, ‘Hey, we’ve reviewed the appellate record and the circuit court judge’s decision and found it lacks merit to move forward, plain and simple,” said Roseville City Attorney Tim Tomlinson.
