PORTAGE TOWNSHIP — Porter County police say an extremely intoxicated 29-year-old woman escaped harm early Wednesday after she drove her vehicle on to railroad tracks immediately south of Ind. 130 and became stuck.
Police said they arrived arrived at the scene in the area of County Road 600 North around 12:05 a.m. Wednesday and removed the woman before any trains arrived.
The driver, who is not yet being identified because she had not been officially charged as of mid morning Wednesday, reportedly told police she was on her way home to Hobart when her GPS gave her instructions to turn and she incorrectly assumed the tracks were the roadway.
The woman insisted she was fine and just wanted to get her vehicle off the tracks and go home, police said.
