WATERBURY, Conn. (WFSB) - A new future is being mapped out to replace Waterbury’s Mixmaster, the highway interchange between I-84 and Route 8 that goes over the Naugatuck River.
The Mixmaster has been overburdened for years. Once an engineering marvel, Waterbury’s Mixmaster can now be pretty tough to travel.
The state wants to get rid of the stacked highway to ideally create a safer and less congested flow of traffic.
Last year, construction on the Mixmaster not only added additional lanes but also extended its lifespan by about another quarter century.
“It improved a little bit, but there’s still a lot of traffic,” said Robert Holbrook, Wolcott.
It’s a source of frustration for motorists, and a necessary route for many traveling across Waterbury.
