WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - A southern Illinois man was arrested during a traffic stop after deputies say they found drugs in the vehicle.

Ricky L. Monteith, of Herrin, was arrested on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and disobeying a stop sign.

He was taken to the Williamson County Jail.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies pulled the vehicle over around 8:30 p.m. on August 25 for a traffic violation near the intersection of Oak and 19th Street.

They identified the driver as Monteith.

During the traffic stop, deputies requested the help of a K-9 unit from the Herrin Police Department. They say the K-9 alerted to the smell of drugs.
