FULTON, Ala. (WKRG) — Several counties in Alabama held elections Tuesday, including Fulton. But while most elected a mayor and several council members representing districts within their municipality, Fulton voted for seven people, with the top five vote earners getting a spot on the council.
According to the Alabama League of Municipalities, there are two forms of government: the mayor-council government and the council-manager government.
In a mayor-council system, a mayor and anywhere from five to nine council members, depending on the size of the municipality, are elected to run the city.
