A use permit to allow outdoor cooking with a smoker for the Wild Barbecue restaurant was approved at a recent meeting of the Tempe Development Review Commission.

The commission voted unanimously Aug. 26 to approve the permit.

Wild Barbecue is a proposed family-owned, Texas-style barbecue restaurant at 601 W. University on property zoned CSS, commercial shopping and services. The site was a former distillery with a tasting room and is adjacent to an existing restaurant to the west.

The business has a FatStack smoker on site, according to a written staff report.
