CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Cleveland Stephens, known as "Schmitty," has pleadedd guilty in federal court to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Stephens, 63 from Cedar Rapids, admitted to distributing over 500 grams of meth between August 2022 and June 2024. Stephens faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, with the possibility of life imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and lifetime supervised release. Sentencing will be determined after a presentence report is prepared, and Stephens remains in custody. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Devra T. Hake and Dillan Edwards. It was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Cedar Rapids Police Department, Linn County Sheriff's Office, and Benton County Sheriff's Office.
