WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - As local schools prepare their buses for the start of a new school year, bus drivers like Cecil Sisson are preparing for the task of ensuring students’ safety.

“These transportation departments, they care. It’s going to be long days. It’s going to be early mornings, it’s going to be late nights, but we have precious cargo that we get a chance to transport,” said Sisson, transportation supervisor, Indian River Central School District.

While Sisson and other area bus drivers take these buses on the road for the new school year, they’re asking that the community do their part to keep the roads safe.

“We have to remember to be patient when we get behind the school buses. And when we see the stop signs illuminate, that means come to a screeching halt, so to say.
