WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - Watertown and Jefferson County law enforcement say reckless e-bikers in Watertown are a problem that won’t go away without stricter rules.

“Why do they have the right, right now, to do anything they really want to, and not be held accountable?” said Jefferson County Sheriff Peter Barnett.

Barnett is getting fed up with reckless e-bike riders in Watertown.

“They seem to be popping up everywhere,” he said. “I was on Arsenal Street the other day, and I’m in the right hand lane heading up towards downtown and an e-bike came up behind me- had to be doing 40 miles an hour- In and out of lanes, and they were gone out of eyesight. Like holy cow.”
