DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - The Danville Area Humane Society says a dog that killed an 8-year-old boy during an attack Tuesday will likely be put to death.

Danville Police say they were called to a Berryman Avenue address Tuesday, August 26, about a boy with neck trauma consistent with an animal bite.

Police say the boy was in the care of his teenage sister at the time of the attack. The family said the dog was not previously known to be aggressive.

The 4-year-old dog was taken to the Danville Area Humane Society, which issued this statement:
