LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (WCAX) - A popular hiking and skiing welcome center in the Adirondacks is closing its doors, at least for the winter.

The Adirondack Mountain Club says the Cascade Welcome Center in Lake Placid is now closed until at least March.

The club purchased the welcome center in 2022.

Adirondack Mountain Club Executive Director Cortney Worrall says the decision to close was a financial one as they evaluate what “the best path forward is” for the property.

She adds that part of it also includes the uncertainty about whether they will have state funding going forward to support operations at the center.
