The inaugural Helena Youth Battle of the Bands kicked off 3 p.m. Aug. 19 at The Myrna Loy and was “an absolute smash,” organizer Max Hay said.
“The bands worked so hard and it paid off,” he said, adding everyone went home with something, although some prizes were markedly bigger than others.
Young local artists from all genres threw down their best two-song sets in a one-of-a-kind musical showcase. The contest had two requirements: all bands must include at least three people and at least 75% of the band must be 20 years old or younger.
The concept of a Youth Battle of the Bands has been a long-held dream for Hay.
