HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - It’s International Overdose Awareness Day and the rate of deadly overdoses, is down in Connecticut from this time last year.

A new UConn study looked at 199 adults in our state with a recent history of opioid use.

Nearly half said they’ve experienced an overdose at some point in their lives.

The study found older people were less likely to experience one.

About a third said they were recently part of a recovery program, but 8 in 10 said they had a hard time getting treatment services in the past year.

Experts said people need better access to treatment services that also address mental health challenges.
