MINNEAPOLIS — Roughly eight hours after a 23-year-old opened fire at a school church in Minneapolis that left two children dead, leaders called for action so that such an act of violence would never happen again.

The attack happened at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday as Annunciation Catholic School students were in a back-to-school Mass. It was their second day of the school year. According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara, the shooter shot through a window towards the students as they sat in pews. The shooter died by suicide.

Two children, ages 8 and 10, died at the scene, according to O'Hara. In the afternoon press conference, the police chief said there were 19 victims in total, most of whom were children between the ages of 6 and 15. He added that three people in their 80s wh
