ROYAL KUNIA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man accused of starting a wildfire in Kunia Saturday has been charged.

Antonio Vierra, 70, was charged on suspicion of second-degree arson in connection with a fire that sparked Aug. 23 near the area of Kunia Road and Leia Street .

The fire was first reported at around 11 a.m. and generated black smoke that could be seen from miles away.

Twenty units staffed with 60 personnel responded. Kunia Road was shut down while crews battled the blaze.

The fire was declared 95% contained just before 1:30 p.m. with five to seven acres involved.

No evacuations were needed.

According to police, a man was seen at the scene and fled in a gold truck with blue pinstripes. Patrol officers located the vehicle on Kahalewai Street near the area of a second reported fire,
