ATLANTA — Susan Monarez, the newly-appointed director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is being removed from the position just weeks into the job, according to the health agency.
Monarez was ousted just several weeks after she was confirmed to lead the CDC, citing multiple administration officials familiar with the matter. Monarez had been serving as the acting CDC director since January after coming over from another federal health agency, according to the Associated Press .
Monarez had been nominated by President Donald Trump after he withdrew his first pick, former Republican congressman Dave Weldon. Monarez was a longtime federal government scientist and was confirmed by the Senate for the permanent title in July.
