SALISBURY, Vt. (WCAX) - Some Addison County children started at a new school on Wednesday, some of them riding the bus for the very first time.

Former Ripton Elementary School students headed to class at the Salisbury Community School.

After years of contention over the future of the small school, the Addison Central School District Board closed Ripton for this upcoming school year.

For Ripton students who grew up walking to school, it’s a big adjustment.

One Middlebury middle school student said his younger brother has mixed feelings.

“He’s excited to go to a new school, but he’s also going to miss some of his friends because they’re moving away, and they’ll be at a different school. It’s just he’s gonna be mixed with a different group of friends,” said Axel Paquette, a former Ripton
