SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - An Iowa man facing multiple charges has received the date for a jury trial.

Richard Hammond is to face a jury trial at the Cherokee County Courthouse on March 10, 2026.

Hammond was arrested and charged with first-degree murder after he allegedly ran over and killed 47-year-old Christopher Wheeler at a farm east of Cherokee on April 21, 2025.

Hammond posted the $100,000 bond but later had a new warrant out for his arrest after violating the conditions of the bond.

That warrant was issued on June 30, 2025. Hammond was taken into custody on July 1, 2025.

Court documents say Hammond drove past his ex-girlfriend’s house with no purpose other than to keep tabs on her and others at the residence and to cause annoyance and alarm.
