MANDAN, ND (KXNET) — The Mandan Police Department is warning residents of a new scam going around the area.
According to a Facebook post, there is a caller claiming to be a Sgt. Jerod Allen or Lt. Collins from the Morton County Sheriff's Office.
The post said that the caller is claiming, "There was paperwork filed by the courts that needs to be taken care of, or a warrant will be issued through the local magistrate, and two deputies will come and arrest you."
Officials say that the person is asking for a large amount of cash that needs to be deposited into a kiosk.
The person has a fairly heavy southern accent, and the number appears to be from the Morton County Sheriff's Office.
People should use caution with these types of calls, as most government institutions will not ask for this
