FRYEBURG, Maine — State leaders celebrated a newly renovated public shooting range in Fryeburg Wednesday, which will reopen to the public this Saturday, Aug. 30.

Standing in the Gregory Sanborn Wildlife Management Area off Route 5, Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife commissioner Judy Camuso fired the “first shot” to celebrate the reopening of the state-owned facility—offering ranges for shotguns, rifles, pistols, and bows.

The Fryeburg site is just the second state-managed shooting range in Maine. The first, located in Augusta , served about 4,000 visitors in 2024, according to Camuso. Officials hope the Fryeburg range will see similar use, with instructional classes planned to begin on-site soon.
