OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — Sen. Susan Collins spoke Friday at the Maine Sheriff's Association retreat breakfast, commending law enforcement officers for keeping the state safe.
Collins told attendees that officers often go unrecognized and unthanked for their work. She also took questions following the event, including one about speculation that Gov. Janet Mills may be eyeing her Senate seat.
"Well, the governor has not eliminated that possibility ever to my knowledge," Collins said. "The Democrats clearly are gonna have a crowded primary, and it's up to them, not me, to sort out who the candidate's gonna be."
Mills said this week that she is still considering a run. She indicated she may take several months before announcing a decision, possibly in November.
