FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - A man from Benton, Illinois, will be spending the next 44 years in prison.

On Wednesday, August 27, Franklin County State’s Attorney Abby Dinn announced that 36-year-old Jesse Skaggs was sentenced to 44 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) for sex crimes he committed against a child.

Back in February of this year, a victim reported a lengthy history of sexual abuse perpetrated by Skaggs.

The Benton Police Department began an investigation, during which time Skaggs admitted to sexually assaulting the minor over the course of several years.

Then in March, Skaggs was charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and four counts of criminal sexual assault. He was arrested and placed in the custody of the Franklin Co
