ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A Franklin County woman admitted to using stolen mail to commit fraud on Wednesday.

Miranda Burgess, 30, pleaded guilty to 13 counts, one for aggravated identity theft, three for possession of stolen mail and nine of bank fraud.

Burgess had been obtaining mail of the victim with their bank information. She would use the information to transfer funds from the victim’s bank to her own accounts.

The earliest reported incident was Feb. 1, 2022.

Burgess initiated $76,270 of fraudulent transfers, but $50,000 was returned to the victim.

In addition to transferring money, Burgess deposited counterfeit checks under the victim’s name, forging signatures and account numbers.

This cost the victim $1,200.
