HURON, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The South Dakota State Fair got underway on Wednesday in Huron.

The fair gates opened for the 2025 season with a packed schedule, including grandstand events to 4H exhibits, and animal shows, to the midway full of rides and food.

“This year is the 140th state fair, and it’s very rewarding to be able to put on this event that has so much tradition. People have been camping at the state fair for decades. People that do come here take it as a time to reconnect with their friends or families and really just spend some quality time together,” said assistant manager Candi Briley.

The fair will once again host the “Salute to Veterans” program on the Northwestern Energy Freedom Stage on Thursday.
