SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — As the school year gets underway at schools throughout Siouxland, health officials are reminding you to be on the lookout for a common and highly contagious illness.

Cases of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease are being reported in the area. This illness causes fever, mouth sores, and skin rashes, particularly on the hands and feet. According to the CDC, the virus is most common in children under the age of five, but anyone can contract it. Local health officials would like to remind everyone of several ways to help prevent the spread of this disease.
