PIMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KVOA) - Residents in a remote Pima County neighborhood near Marana are pushing back against a proposal to construct an airstrip near their homes. The lawyer for the company that owns the land where the airstrip would go, claims the airstrip will alleviate air traffic at Marana Regional Airport.
The airport has seen rapid growth and recently a deadly crash. It does not have an air traffic control tower.
Greg Springer, a homeowner near the proposed airstrip, described the area as "just a small community really out in the middle of nowhere." He and his family have lived there for 16 years.
"It's home," Springer said. "It's really where we hope to spend our lives with our kids, raising them out here and giving them a good life," said Greg's wife Rebecca Springer.
