ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - Peter J. Williams, a former Congressional candidate who ran for Louisiana’s Congressional District Six (CD6) in 2024 against current Rep. Cleo Fields (D-LA-06), is running for that seat once again in 2026.
The former Democratic candidate, one of four Democrats who ran for the seat last year, is now switching to the Republican Party in hopes of gaining the party’s support.
Choosing a new party was inevitable, according to Williams. He cited that joining the Republican Party was “due to the current political climate in Louisiana, and Washington D.C., along with the lack of support for his conservative views on left-leaning issues, and his ‘people over politics agenda’ and other advocacy positions.”
