PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Maryvale High School may take legal action against a state lawmaker and her daughter after officials said they tested the school’s security system by trying to smuggle in a boxcutter on Monday.

Phoenix Union High School District, also known as PXU, said Democratic Rep. Lydia Hernandez , who is also the Cartwright Elementary School District Governing Board president , and her daughter, Cassandra Hernandez, who is also on the Cartwright Governing Board, arrived at the Maryvale High School main office and were required to go through security screening.

Cassandra went first through the advanced weapon detection screening, officials said, while Lydia stood behind her and recorded the incident on her phone.

The alarm system went off and Cassandra went back and walked
