BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Trial began today for a convicted rapist accused of assaulting a woman just months after he was paroled from prison.
Opening statements were given by the prosecution and the rape victim herself took the witness stand for the first time. "The facts that are being presented are really ones that are straight out of a nightmare," said Christine Antonios, the prosecutor on the case.
Six men and six women jurors, from salt-and-pepper haired elderly to fresh face young adults filled the jury box to listen to the opening statements on this case. This isn't 62-year-old Sergio Venegas' first criminal trial, in fact, it's not his first time being accused of a sex crime.
