TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Seven junior colleges across Alabama are playing flag football this fall.
Shelton State, a member of the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC), and the other six schools are sponsoring teams for the first time ever.
Shelton State head flag football coach Doug Rogers is optimistic about where this sport is headed.
“When you talk about Alabama and Auburn football, pretty soon you’re going to be asking is that flag or tackle?” Rogers said.
Rogers, like his players, is moving up from the high school level. He coached last year at Vestavia Hills High School.
Many of his players, like freshman Shabreia Brannon, won championships in high school.
