Thousands gathered to grieve the traumatic events in Minneapolis on Wednesday, which saw two children killed and 17 injured in a mass shooting at Annunciation Church and Catholic School.
Vigils were held Wednesday evening in a packed gymnasium at the Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield, and then at Lynnhurst Park in south Minneapolis, a short distance from the church and school where Robin Westman opened fire, killing an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old and injuring 14 children and three adults.
The emotional scenes at both vigils, with tears shed among many of the mourners, were accompanied by calls for action from the political leaders who spoke at the events, and called for swift and significant action on gun control, with some calling for an assault rifle ban.
