HUNTINGTON -- Marshall’s football captains blend multiple perspectives and journeys that are reaching a culmination this weekend as the Thundering Herd will face No. 5 Georgia on Saturday.
Tight end Toby Payne and offensive linemen Eric Meeks and Jalen Slappy are returning faces who offer up a perspective on what football means at Marshall.
“We talked about it a little bit in our room – how big it is to have two offensive linemen as captains,” Meeks said. “Both of us are on leadership council, and we’re proud of that. It means a lot to me. I’ve been here since 2021. To see it come full circle community-wise, team-wise – it’s a proud moment for me to be voted captain.”
