You have until Sept. 5 to figure out your garbage needs

Big changes are coming to garbage day in Waterloo Region.

You have a choice between a large container or an extra-large container in which to put your garbage as it waits to be picked up.

The new containers are bigger than a traditional garbage bag. They might be heavy to move, and they might not fit neatly on your property.

You have to decide by Sept. 5 if you want the smaller size — which fits about one large garbage bag — or the bigger cart, which is 111 cm (44 inches) high, and holds three bags’ worth of trash.

These changes are happening because garbage collection is changing. Machines, rather than humans, are going to be tossing our junk into the truck.
