CARROLLTON, Ohio (WJW) -- An Ohio Lottery player from Carrollton scratched off a half-million-dollar ticket, but told lottery officials his wife, who's battling cancer, didn't believe him — until he could prove it.
According to a media release, the man had spent the day taking his wife to a round of appointments for cancer treatment and stopped at a Bellstore in Malvern on the way home. He purchased a couple $5 scratch-off tickets and the store's last remaining Best of 7’s scratch-off ticket for $10.
He scratched off the Best of 7’s ticket when he got home and told lottery officials he was "stunned" when he saw the $500,000 prize and immediately told his wife.
“She looked at me funny and said did you fall? I said no I’m in shock! I think I won half-a-million dollars!” he said.
