The Erie County Fair recently wrapped up seven days of equine competitions and left a local competitor draped in ribbons.

In a show that brought together more than 250 horses, Kyla Dooney of Simcoe and her horse, Specially Painted, won three different awards across two divisions. The duo was named the Western Division Open Hi Point Grand Champion and Senior Hi Point Grand Champion.

In the English Division, Dooney and Specially Painted captured the Senior Hi Point Reserve Champion.

“My coaches said, ‘It’ll be a really fun show and you’ll like it’,” Dooney said. “There wasn’t a lot of pressure; it was just like a fun show, and it was just to get in the saddle, get some more time in the ring, that sort of thing. It was run differently, too, from what we do at the Ontario Paint Horse Club.”
