GASTONIA, N.C. — Gastonia police seized approximately five kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of up to $200,000 during a traffic stop that led to a foot chase through the woods on Wednesday, detectives said.

The bust represents a significant blow to drug trafficking operations, with investigators saying the 11 pounds of cocaine could have been broken down into tens of thousands of individual street-level doses.

Officers spotted a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse with Texas license plates following too close and making multiple evasive maneuvers after spotting law enforcement, according to a police department news release. The vehicle abruptly turned into Summit Crossing Place, where the passenger jumped from the vehicle and ran off carrying a weighted box.
