September marks distracted driving and occupant restraint month in B.C.
As back-to-school routines begin to ramp up, the RCMP are reminding the public to buckle up and put the phone down, as roads start to become increasingly busy with more vehicles and people on the streets.
“We have seen far too many fatal collisions in 2025 that would never have happened if seatbelts properly restrained the victims,” says Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with B.C. Highway Patrol.
“We don’t want anyone to be a victim.”

ICBC reports that someone is 3.6 times more likely to crash if using a device due to distraction. Distracted driving is one of the top three reasons for people dying on B.C. roads, alongside impairment and s
