AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - Jim Reid, a revered figure in University of Massachusetts football, has announced his retirement after a 51-year coaching career.

Reid, who served as an analyst under current head coach Joe Harasymiak, was previously the head coach at UMass from 1986 to 1991. During his tenure as head coach, Reid led the Minutemen to three Yankee Conference championships in 1986, 1988, and 1990.

Reid's coaching career spanned various roles and institutions, including significant contributions to the defensive units at Boston College and Iowa. His coaching helped Iowa rank among the national leaders in various defensive statistics.
